OCH!!!!!! What AMAZINGLY, UNBELIEVABLY GLORIOUS singing!

I just listened to the songs from Naked on MySpace.

She's always had my heart in the singing of songs, but Ms. Maura's gone and done it now. She wins all singing awards in my book!

When a singer has a beautiful voice; when a talented singer knows HOW to sing, being unbound by the adornments of instruments and such, there appears a sparkling light in the sound, that we cannot see at any other time.

There is an expression I discovered a few years back in reading about a nun, musician and mystic, the Abbess Hildegard von Bingen, that I carry with me still. She described herself as "a feather on the breath of God". Surely, Maura's voice has been guided along as a feather on the breath of God!

Congratulations, Maura, on a dream realized and on a job beautifully and perfectly done.

There really IS a difference between having a lovely voice (which I've been told I have) and knowing HOW to sing (which I don't). Dewey and I saw Maura in Atlanta at Eddie's Attic back in February. We had invited along a young couple from Belgium (here for a trade show that we were attending) and a professional singer who had been trained in classical singing (opera and such). This lady has retired from singing, but teaches singing now. She was spell-bound! She threw out comments like, "what a beautiful delivery" and "when I was singing, that's the kind of phrasing I aspired to...it's not easy". There are ONLY wonderful singers on this CD, who stand alongside our Ms. Maura to help deliver this different but beautiful recording.
